Launched in March 2022, The Top is the brainchild of a 14-year-old dynamo, an 8th grader named Langston Rey Howard. Inspired by a family legacy of successful business owners, including his dad, grandfather, aunt, and great grandmothers, Langston ventured into entrepreneurship at the tender age of five. He started by selling his artwork to friends and family, setting the stage for a journey marked by relentless passion and commitment to excellence.
Drawing from his experiences and guided by his idols, Langston infuses The Top with motivation and inspiration. The brand encompasses a variety of pieces, from face masks and hats to hoodies, each adorned with motivational quotes that echo the philosophy of boundless potential.
Fashion and Mentoring:
Langston’s journey took an exciting turn when he was selected for the Black Men In Fashion Mentorship Program by the Boys and Girls Club of SE Michigan and Maison Black. Under the mentorship of accomplished fashion designer Marcus Alexander, Langston crafted two full looks that graced the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessey (LVMH) tower during New York Fashion Week (NYFW) in February. This experience deepened his fashion expertise and garnered attention from industry influencers like rapper Big Sean.
Academic and Athletic Prowess:
Beyond his foray into fashion, Langston is a scholar and athlete. Maintaining Cum Laude honors at one of Michigan’s most academically rigorous private schools, he excels in basketball and track. Balancing his academic and athletic pursuits, Langston aspires to secure a full scholarship to college, a testament to his unwavering work ethic and dedication to success.
Daily Grind and Faith:
Langston’s days kick off at 5 a.m. with a morning workout, setting the tone for exemplary time management and leadership as a student and Student Council president. Evenings are dedicated to homework, managing The Top, and athletic practice. Weekends are a mix of brand opportunities, basketball, and cherished family game nights. Grounded in faith, Langston finds solace in reading the Bible every night and actively participating in his church.
